Guard your WORDS!

“If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man and able also to bridle the whole body.” James 3:2

“For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents and of the things in the sea, is tamed and hath been tamed of mankind; but the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.” James 3:7

The above verses clearly tell us how powerful yet dangerous the tongue is and the words that come out of it. The Bible says, “He who guards his lips, guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin.”- Proverbs 13:3. It is very important to be aware of what we speak. Guarding your mouth and watching your words are necessary for our everyday life.

In many instances, you may just say something without thought, out of anger or emotions or frustration, or even based on how you feel at that moment and later apologize to the opposite person and say that you did not mean it. I am pretty sure all of us have done this including me. But to tell you the truth, this is not right! You cannot let your feelings and emotions overrule your life! You need to TAME YOUR TONGUE!!

Satan brings situations into your life that may be overwhelming, and you may feel like your world is going upside down. Do not go by your feelings! Be very wise when you open your mouth to speak, especially in such situations. The tongue is the most powerful part of the body. The Bible says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21.

The choice of words is a significant element of your speech. Many people fall into trouble due to their bad choice of words. Whether you are having a casual conversation or even an argument with your family, friends or co-workers be very vigilant with your choice of words. It is very easy to exaggerate words in your speech and create chaos for yourself. Also, sometimes you might be with your friends and think that nobody is watching you, so, you can speak however you want. At that very moment do remember my friend, God is watching you always! He knows exactly where you are, what you are doing, and what you are speaking about. He knew you even before you were formed in your mother's womb! Undoubtedly, he knows everything about you. You will be accountable for every word that comes out of your mouth. So, be very careful of what you speak.

Your words are so powerful that they can either build up someone or completely tear down somebody within no time. The Bible says “Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” Proverbs 12:18. We, as believers should always live for God and must always try to build others up. Our words must never be the reason for someone's life falling apart. Beware of what you speak!

The words you speak also reveal a lot about you. It will showcase what you believe, what is filled in your heart, and what you are constantly hearing. Because hearing also has a lot of impact on the way a person speaks. Hearing the word of God and the right teachings every day can have a great impact on your life and transform your life for the best. Hearing affects the way you speak!

Don’t try to use a lot of words, especially unwanted ones in difficult situations. It will only make things worse. There are ways in which you can tame or control your tongue in all circumstances.

1. Speaking only when it is necessary.

2. Speaking only what is necessary.

3. Speaking less.

As the verse from the Holy Bible in Proverbs 2:6 says “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” God has given each one of us the wisdom to know what is right and wrong. We must constantly hear his word, concentrate on the right teachings and open our mouths wisely at all times. Let us all pray and believe that he will give us more wisdom and understanding to choose the right words at the right time!

God bless you!
